(3) (Anonymizer, Inc., San Diego, CA) The first anonymous Web surfing service. Anonymous Surfing lets users browse the Web privately without divulging their identity information and IP addresses. The company was founded in 1995 by Lance Cottrell, an acknowledged expert in cryptography and Internet privacy. Cottrell also created Mixmaster, which hides senders' names and email addresses (see
anonymous remailer). In 2010, Anonymizer was acquired by Ntrepid.
