Definition: animatronics


(ANIMAl elecTRONICS or ANIMAted elecTRONICS) The field of robotic animals and puppets. Animatronics is a branch of robotics that is used in movies as well as product commercials. However, animatronics has mostly given way to computer-generated imagery (CGI), where everything is created entirely in the computer because it is more cost effective than building real models and animating them.
