Definition: analog stereo

Two-channel analog audio signals that use one red (right) and one white (left) RCA connector for wiring consumer electronics equipment. For higher performance, professional audio equipment may use balanced XLR connections instead of RCA, or offer both XLR and RCA. See RCA connector and XLR connector.

Analog Stereo Inputs on a TV
Red and white RCA sockets are found on myriad devices. In this example, if the video source outputs HDMI, only an HDMI cable is required to connect to this TV. If the source outputs only DVI, a DVI-to-HDMI cable is required, and the audio is wired separately to these audio ports (DVI does not handle audio). See HDMI-DVI compatibility.
