Definition: XML validator

Software that tests the format of an XML file. For example, an XML validator ensures that all beginning tags have ending tags in the right order. It also verifies that the content follows the rules that are defined in the XML description. XML validators are commonly employed prior to executing software that parses the XML text into a database. There are several free validator websites that report XML errors after developers either upload or copy and paste their XML files. See XML.
