Definition: World ID

A blockchain-based passport and protocol from Worldcoin. World ID is an identity system developed to enable people to prove they are a unique human. World ID holders anonymously verify their identity via software that uses the World ID protocol or a compatible wallet, such as provided by the World App.

After a person's iris is scanned by visiting a World ID physical Orb location, he or she is awarded Worldcoin (WLD) tokens, which can be traded like Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. As of the summer of 2023, Orbs are only in a few major cities such as London and New York.
