Definition: Windows Deployment Services

A Windows server feature starting with Windows Server 2008 that enables remote installation of Windows over the network. Superseding Remote Installation Services (RIS), Windows Deployment Services (WDS) uses a file-based system image that conforms to the Windows Imaging Format (WIM).
