Definition: WinChip


A Pentium MMX-class CPU chip from Via Technologies, Inc., Fremont, CA). Originally developed by Centaur Technology, Inc., Via acquired Centaur's designs in 1999. The Socket 7-based WinChip, which never caught on, was optimized for Windows applications, and the C6 models were introduced in 1997 at 180 and 200 MHz. C6+ chips contained instructions for 3D graphics. See MMX and Cyrix.
