Definition: Whonix

A Linux-based operating system that is focused on Internet privacy and complete user anonymity. Whonix comprises two virtual machine (VM) instances that run in the KVM, Qubes OS, VMware or VirtualBox environments. The Workstation VM instance runs the user's applications and connects to an internal virtual LAN. The second VM instance is Gateway, which is appropriately named because it is the gateway between the internal LAN and the external Internet world via the Tor browser. See Linux, Tor and virtual machine.
