A popular real-time operating system for embedded systems from Wind River, Alameda, CA. VxWorks is used to control a wide variety of products, including network and telecom devices, test and measurement equipment, computer peripherals and consumer products. It is also used in the automotive and aerospace industries for engine control and avionics. VRTX Roots
VxWorks was originally an extension of the VRTX real-time OS kernel. Wind River added a file system and integrated development environment (IDM) that made the VRTX operating system "Work"able. Later, the VRTX kernel was rewritten. See
