A satellite-based Internet service from Viasat, Inc., Carlsbad, California. Founded in 1986, Viasat started out as a satellite-based communications service. In 2001, it developed satellite modems for WildBlue, which launched its Internet service in 2004. Five years later, Viasat acquired WildBlue, and via multiple partnerships and acquisitions, including the purchase of Inmarsat in 2023, became a $5 billion dollar company with more than 7,000 employees by 2025.
