Definition: VTF

(Vertical Tracking Force) The downward force a stylus makes on the groove of a vinyl phonograph record. Typically from one to three grams, the adjustment is made by turning a wheel or moving a counterweight on the tone arm. Digital stylus force gauges can measure VTF within .001 gram.
