Virtual
Reality therapy) A variety of treatments using virtual reality (VR) systems, whereby the patient is completely immersed in a simulated environment. Virtual therapy dates back to the 1990s, and the VR environment generally replicates the conditions that created the anxiety. For example, a veteran might be placed back into a simulated battle where the trauma was experienced. Other VR therapies offer a soothing environment that helps remove anxiety or even chronic pain. There is a huge variety of VR therapies in use, and combined with traditional methods, many have been very successful. See
