An ITU standard (1991) for asynchronous and synchronous 4,800, 7,200, 9,600, 12,000 and 14,400 bps full-duplex analog modems using trellis-coded modulation (TCM) and echo cancellation. V.32bis supported rate renegotiation, which allowed modems to change speeds as required.
