Definition: titanium

(1) For Intel's previous server line, which sounds like titanium, see Itanium.

(2) For the iPhone with a titanium case, see iPhone 15.

(3) A silver-colored element with the symbol Ti. Titanium is corrosion resistant with a very high strength-to-density ratio (half the weight of steel with much greater tensile strength). Grades 1 through 4 are pure titanium, whereas the widely used Grade 5 has at least 3% aluminum and vanadium. Titanium was discovered in 1791 by Reverend William Gregor in Cornwall, England. Originally called "manaccanite" because it was discovered in the Manaccan valley. See PowerBook and iPhone 15.
