Open source optical character recognition (OCR) software that is available for more than 30 spoken languages. Considered one of the most accurate OCR recognition engines, Tesseract runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. Developed by HP starting in the 1980s, it was released as open source in 2005 by HP and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Since then, Google has sponsored development.
