Standard) Tesla's electric vehicle charging plug and socket. Adopted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in 2023 as the nationwide standard, NACS, designated as J3400, is expected to eventually replace the J1772 standard used by non-Tesla vehicles.
Better for AC Charging
NACS is also capable of AC charging up to 277 volts of AC current, compared to J1772's 240 volts. The 277 volts is adaptable to apartment houses and offices that have three-phase 480-volt service. Although commercial charging stations use DC, most battery charging is done at home using AC current. See
