Definition: Telegram app


A very popular messaging app that was introduced in 2013. Telegram also enables image sharing and video selfies. With more than 500 million users on all major platforms, the service was created by two Russians after the social network they founded was usurped by their government. Messages can be edited after sending and also made to auto delete.

In the March 2022 edition of Wired Magazine, Darren Loucaides wrote: "Telegram has no targeted advertising, no addictive algorithm, courage in the face of autocracies and hundreds of millions of users. It's also a haven for extremists, a hotbed of information and the perfect platform for plotting insurrection."

Telegram Web: Web K and Web Z
In 2021, two Web-based Telegram clients were launched that work in conjunction with the user's Telegram account. Web K and Web Z were developed by different teams within the company and actually compete with each other.

Telegram Premium
In 2022, a paid version of Telegram was announced with unlimited cloud storage and double the size of uploads, channels and chat folders. There are no sponsored messages in the Premium version.
