Protocol) A communications protocol for office systems developed in the early 1980s by the Computer Services division of Boeing. TOP is often used with the General Motors manufacturing automation protocol (MAP). Whereas TOP is used in the front office, MAP is deployed on the factory floor. TOP uses Ethernet's CSMA/CD access method, while MAP uses token bus. See
