Data) Developed by Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the Web, Solid is a protocol that decouples a person's private data from the websites they deal with over the Internet. Personal data is stored in a digital locker called a "Pod," and users decide which websites can have which data. For example, a doctor would be allowed health data, and a merchant would be given credit card data. Access can be revoked at any time.
Not a simple task, Solid requires a new layer added to the Web protocols and the involvement of all the major tech companies. See
