Definition: Socket 7


The motherboard receptacle that holds a Pentium CPU chip. It is also used to hold Pentium-compatible chips such as AMD's K5 and K6 CPUs. See Slot 1 and Super7.




Socket 7
Socket 7 uses a zero insertion force (ZIF) assembly. After insertion of the chip, the lever is pulled down and the pins are locked in.
