A connector) A threaded plug and socket used for coaxial cable and optical fibers. The first optical fiber connector to be standardized, bi-directional transmission requires two cables and two SMA sockets at each end. SMA is specified by the TIA as FOCIS-1. See
fiber-optic connectors and
FOCIS.
Amphenol SMA Fiber Connector
Amphenol's 905 and 906 series were the first SMA connectors to become widely used. They are available with different hole sizes. (Image courtesy of Amphenol Corporation.)
Reverse Polarity (RP-SMA)
Reverse Polarity SMA connectors are used for coaxial cable, and the socket contains the pin instead of the plug. RP-SMA connectors are used in this example to attach three Wi-Fi antennas to this TP-LINK wireless router.
