(SAE International, Warrendale, PA) The standards organization that governs motorized vehicles. SAE provides forums for the development of technical standards for cars, commercial trucks and aerospace vehicles. Founded in 1905 as the Society of Automotive Engineers, membership is open to individuals rather than companies. Famous people have been members, including Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Orville Wright.
