(AirFuel Alliance) An organization devoted to wireless charging. In 2015, the AirFuel Alliance was formed from the merger of the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP).
AirFuel Inductive
This is the closely coupled inductive charging technology that was developed by the PMA. Operating in the 100-200 kHz range, the device and charger must be within a few millimeters of each other. Multimode charging pads in the center consoles of various automobiles support AirFuel Inductive/PMA as well as the Qi closely coupled technology.
AirFuel Resonant
Developed by the A4WP, this loosely coupled method was originally known as Rezence. Operating at the 6.78 MHz frequency, the device and charger can be an inch or more apart, which enables under-table mounting. Trimode charging cases for smartphones and charging pads support both AirFuel methods, as well as Qi. See
