A very popular online discussion board founded in 2005 that allows people to post anything and receive comments. Commonly called a "social media site" or "community platform," Reddit users create "subreddits" that cover a topic of their choosing. Subreddits are identified by an "r" and slash; for example, r/International News, r/CPlusPlus and r/AppleMusic.
Posts are approval-rated thumbs up or down by readers, and the more popular ones appear at the top of the subreddit and eventually Reddit's home page. From the topic point of view, Reddit is like an Internet forum, and it has replaced many such venues. The difference is that forum comments are not voted up or down with the more popular responses listed higher up as in search engine ranking.
Reddit Moderators
Whomever creates a subreddit can moderate it, or a person can be invited to be a Reddit "mod." As subreddits grow in size, and depending on the subject, there may be a need for more moderators. See
