Definition: RAPID Mode


(Real-time Accelerated Processing of I/O Data Mode) Samsung's memory cache system that launched in 2018 for selected Samsung solid state drives (SSDs). Although flash memory chips in SSDs are faster than hard drives, dynamic RAM, the main memory in a computer, is faster than flash memory. RAPID Mode sets up an SSD cache in RAM. See cache and SSD.
