Definition: Portable Media Center

An earlier handheld music and video player that ran an embedded version of the Windows CE operating system. Part of the Windows Mobile platform, it used a hard drive for all content and included software for selecting and synchronizing music, videos and photos from a PC. The Portable Media Center (PMC) supported Janus digital rights management (DRM) and Microsoft's Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) for downloading. In 2004, Creative and Samsung introduced PMC devices. See portable media player, Windows Mobile and Ultra-Mobile PC.
