An earlier handheld music and video player that ran an embedded version of the Windows CE operating system. Part of the Windows Mobile platform, it used a hard drive for all content and included software for selecting and synchronizing music, videos and photos from a PC. The Portable Media Center (PMC) supported Janus digital rights management (DRM) and Microsoft's Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) for downloading. In 2004, Creative and Samsung introduced PMC devices.
