Definition: OpenPOWER Foundation


A membership organization founded by IBM in 2013 to promote the future development of IBM's P Architecture, starting with the POWER8 CPU. Google and NVIDIA were also founding members. OpenPOWER is involved with developing architectural enhancements, whereas Power.org, founded in 2004 also by IBM, is more involved with the POWER CPU instruction sets. See POWER CPU.
