An open-source AI agent that is available to everyone. Launched in 2025 by Austrian vibe coder Peter Steinberger, OpenClaw uses various large language models (LLMs) such as GPT and Claude. There is no formal OpenClaw user interface. Messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Signal and Discord are the interface, and users direct message (DM) OpenClaw to generate results. OpenClaw requires a steep learning curve but is considered very customizable.
OpenClaw was originally Clawdbot; however, after Anthropic challenged the name as being to close to its Claude products, it was renamed Moltbot and then OpenClaw. See
