Definition: Nest Learning Thermostat

A smart home thermostat from Google designed to reduce the monthly electric bill. After being used for one week, it programs itself. Based on the user's smartphone location, the thermostat can lower the temperature when people are away from the house. It can postpone the start of a connected electric clothes dryer to a time of lower energy cost. Between 2011 and 2023, Google claims Nest thermostats have saved customers more than 130 billion kilowatts of electricity. See smart home and energy rush hour.
