An electric vehicle (EV) company in China. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Shanghai, NIO has divisions in Germany, Norway, the U.K. and U.S. Called the "Tesla of China," NIO opened a battery swap center in China in 2018 that replaces batteries in a matter of minutes instead of charging. As of 2022, NIO has six models with "et," "ec" and "es" designations.
In direct competition with Tesla in China, NIO has also shipped models to Norway. U.S. delivery is planned for 2025.

As part of NIO ownership, customers are granted access to "NIO Houses" across the globe, which offers them a workspace with daycare as well as a luxury venue to hold events.
