Definition: NIMBYism

(NotInMyBackYardISM) Whenever a manufacturing plant, warehouse or other facility is planned for construction in a location that is objectionable to the surrounding local inhabitants, "not in my backward" (NIMBY) becomes the rallying cry. NIMBYism refers to that condition.
