Definition: NDI

(Network Device Interface) An IP protocol for digital video from NewTek, Inc. NDI was designed to supersede the SDI interface and transmits NDI-compressed video, uncompressed multichannel audio and metadata over Ethernet. Using multicast DNS (mDNS), devices can advertise themselves on the network. When fully converted from SDI to NDI, organizations eliminate a huge amount of wiring from machine to machine. See SDI.
