(
Mini
SQL) A relational DBMS from Hughes Technologies Pty Ltd. that runs under Unix/Linux, Windows and Mac and is free for non-commercial use. The mSQL query language is a subset of ANSI SQL, and scripting languages such as PHP, MsqlPerl and mSQL's own W3-mSQL are used to access the database from Web pages. Programming languages such as C are also used.
The First Lightweight SQL Database
mSQL was developed by David Hughes in 1994 as an SQL interface from a network management application to the free, non-SQL Postgres DBMS. Postgres was later replaced with a newly developed database engine that ran in minimal hardware, and mSQL was commercialized by Hughes in 1998. Used with many applications, mSQL eventually gave way to the MySQL database (see
MySQL).
