Definition: Microsoft Community-First AI Infrastructure

In 2026, Microsoft unveiled a plan to engage with a community before it builds a new AI data center. Although still a massive job, building a large data center for AI is more straightforward than being able to harness enough electricity to run the facility. Microsoft claims to not increase electricity prices in the area, to replenish more water than it uses, to create jobs for residents, to add to the tax base and to invest in local AI training and non-profits.
