Definition: Magstar MP


(Magstar MultiPurpose) A magnetic tape technology from IBM for midrange systems. Introduced in 1996, Magstar MP used 5GB and 7GB dual-hub 8mm tape cartridges designed for fast picking in a robotic library. The tape head starting point was positioned halfway into the tape. Magstar MP was not as widely used as Magstar. See magnetic tape and Magstar.
