Definition: Macromedia Spectra
An earlier open source website development system from Macromedia that provided a complete package for e-commerce, content management and delivering custom pages based on users' interests. It worked with Macromedia ColdFusion and was installed on a ColdFusion server. Spectra ran under Windows NT/2000 and Solaris and supported the major databases. It featured the ContentObject API (COAPI) object model for designing Web pages and the WebTop, a high-level user interface for team development.
Macromedia Spectra was originally Allaire Spectra, developed by Allaire Corporation, which merged with Macromedia in 2001. Two years later, Macromedia Spectra was made an open source product.
