Definition: MAAS


(1) (MaaS) (Mobility As A Service) See TaaS.

(2) (Metal As A Service) A cloud computing provisioning tool from Canonical that was introduced in Version 12.04 LTS of the Ubuntu operating system. Using cloud functionality, MAAS manages physical servers, including newly deployed server testing, firmware updates and performance evaluation. MAAS works with Canonical's JuJu deployment software, which supports application servers, load balancing and databases. The "metal" in the name refers to "bare metal," a computer term for hardware. (3) (Metaverse As A Service) The blockchain-based open metaverse platform founded by the person who coined the metaverse term (see Lamina1). See metaverse.

(4) (Malware As A Service) Malicious software offered as a service to amateur cyber criminals, who cannot develop their own malware. Same as "cybercrime as a service" (CaaS).
