An individual who is against technological change. The term Luddite comes from English folklore that claims a man named Ned Lud had smashed two stocking frames in 1779 for reasons that are lost in history.
In the early 1800s, when mechanical weaving machines like the Jacquard loom and other automated equipment began to take away jobs, a movement by workers adopted the name of Ned Lud as their cause. Luddites sprang up in various companies over the years, and employers even had people shot to quell the rebellions.
Neo-Luddites, AI Luddites and Technophobes
A neo-Luddite is against computers in general, and an AI Luddite is against AI taking away jobs. Luddites are anti-technology because of anticipated harm to themselves, whereas "technophobes" are against high tech because they find it too confusing. See
