An earlier music distribution service from Liquid Digital Media, Redwood City, CA. Liquid Audio offered bands and record companies content hosting and a website distribution network to promote and sell their music. Founded in 1996 and closed in 2011, Liquid Audio supported the AAC, ATRAC3, MP3 and AC-3 music formats. The company was a founding member of the SDMI digital rights consortium; however, Liquid Audio also supported digital rights from Microsoft and IBM (see
SDMI and
DRM). Liquid Audio tracks, which included album art, liner notes and track titles, were played with Liquid Player, RealOne/RealPlayer and RealJukebox software.
