Definition: LimeWire


An earlier peer-to-peer file sharing program for Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris from Lime Wire LLC, New York. LimeWire was a client program for the Gnutella network. Written in Java and released in 2000, LimeWire shut down in 2010. In that same year, LimeWire resurfaced as WireShare, which was known earlier as the LimeWire Pirate Edition. See Gnutella.

Resurrected in 2022 for NFTs
The original developers are relaunching LimeWire as an NFT marketplace. Aimed at newcomers to NFTs, the LimeWire website will enable purchases via credit cards and fiat currency rather than only cryptocurrency. See NFT.
