Definition: Kotlin


A programming language that is used primarily to generate Java bytecode and is thus cross platform. Developed by JetBrains and released in 2011, Kotlin can also be compiled into native languages for iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows and WebAssembly. Kotlin source code can also be converted to JavaScript. In 2019, Kotlin was chosen as the preferred Android language by Google. The name comes from the Kotlin Island in Russia. See bytecode.
