An AI chatbot that was used to develop answers to people requesting services from Koko, a nonprofit provider of emotional support services founded in 2016. Koko counselors had the option of using OpenAI's GPT-3 AI model to help them craft answers, but without the user's knowledge. Although KokoBot responses were well received, the ratings went down significantly when users found out they were not communicating entirely with a human.
Eventually, the bot was dropped. However, there are mental health support services that explicitly state their use of AI for responses. In addition, some people feel more comfortable and open with an AI than they are "spilling their guts" to a human. See
