Definition: HyperWRT

An earlier operating system based on the Linksys WRT54G series of wireless routers. Developed in 2004, this firmware upgrade was designed to give a feature boost to Linksys routers. Named after its developers, in 2005, HyperWRT +tofu was created for the WRT54G, and HyperWRT Thibor ran on the WRT54GS. Soon after, HyperWRT +tofu was added to HyperWRT Thibor, which was the last version of the software in 2006. Newer routers are not supported. See Tomato, OpenWrt and DD-WRT.
