Extensions) A set of instructions that work on multiple sets of data. AVX was introduced on Intel and AMD processors in 2011. Also called "Sandy Bridge New Extensions," AVX added 16 registers totalling 256 bits for simultaneous operation as follows:

In 2013, two enhancements were made. AVX2, also known as "Haswell New Instructions," incorporated integer math, and AVX-512 doubled the size of the registers from 256 bits to 512. See
