Definition: HTTP streaming

Using the HTTP protocol to stream audio or video content to a user. It may refer to the "progressive download" method or to a proprietary "true streaming" system that tunnels a streaming protocol within the HTTP protocol to avoid firewall problems. In most organizations, HTTP traffic (see port 80) is commonly allowed to accept incoming and allow outgoing Web traffic. See progressive download and video streaming.
