Definition: home theater in a box

A packaged audio system for a home theater. A home theater in a box (HTIB), also called a "home theater system" (HTS), includes the A/V receiver and at least five speakers and a subwoofer. A DVD player may be optional or included, or for lower-end HTIBs, built into the receiver. The receiver and speakers are expected to be matched for wattage and quality, thus eliminating the confusion of choosing from myriad product offerings. After purchasing a TV, only one HTIB package is required to complete the home theater system. See home theater, soundbar and in a box.
