Definition: Grubhub
A food delivery service for local restaurants. Grubhub debuted in 2004 in Chicago and partners with more than 100,000 restaurants in over 2,000 cities. In 2013, Grubhub and the Seamless delivery service merged. Originally SeamlessWeb, which debuted in 1999, Seamless started out catering to the corporate market but opened to individuals a few years later.
Why Grub?
Coined in the 17th century, "grub" is slang for food as in animals grubbing in the ground for something to eat. However, a grub is also the wormlike larva of an insect.
