Definition: Google Pay
Google's contactless mobile payment system. In 2022, Google Pay became the payment system in the Google Wallet app. Google Pay works with the major credit cards as well as debit cards from selected banks. When processing a transaction, Google Pay sends a virtual account number to the merchant, not the actual credit card number (see virtual credit card). See Google Wallet.

Contactless payment terminals using NFC transmission became increasingly available in the 2010s. In 2018, this gas station added the major phone payment methods. See NFC.
