(GlobalFoundries Inc., Malta, NY) GlobalFoundries was created by the spin-off of AMD's chip manufacturing in 2009. It is the largest pure-play semiconductor fab headquartered in the U.S. with plants in New York, Vermont, Singapore and Germany. GlobalFoundries is owned by Mubadala Technology, the investment and development arm of the Abu Dhabi government. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
GlobalFoundries/TSMC Lawsuit
In 2019, GlobalFoundries sued Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) for patent infringement. TSMC countersued, and both parties resolved their dispute by agreeing to honor each other's patents. See
