1) The first generation of a product, typically hardware, such as the Android G1 smartphone (see
HTC G1).
(2) The first generation of IBM's CMOS-based mainframes (Parallel Enterprise Servers). When introduced in 1994, there was no G1 designation, which was later added to clarify the evolution of the line. See
